The evidence matters as much as the label.

A result is a starting point for understanding a claim. Read its scope, explanation, and sources together.

Confirm the claim and context

The panel puts the conclusion and explanation first. Expand Claim checked to see the specific statement assessed. This is especially useful when the original page contains several claims.

In the illustrated example, a budget allocation and actual spending are different things. A number can be accurate while the wording leaves out relevant context.

The screenshots show a fictional budget example in the actual local panel. They are not evidence of a real city budget or a live accuracy evaluation.

What the labels mean

Correct: The checked evidence supports the claim as framed.
Mostly correct: The core claim is supported, with qualifications explained in the result.
Misleading: The wording or missing context creates an impression the evidence does not fully support.
False: The checked evidence contradicts the claim as framed.
Unclear: The available evidence could not establish the claim. This does not, by itself, mean the claim is false.

Open the evidence

A verified passage means Footnote matched the quoted text against the fetched source page. It does not guarantee that the source is correct, independent, or complete.

Show passages reveals the verified quotations already returned by the check. A source without a validated passage stays labeled as unverified. You can open its link and inspect it yourself.

Check dates, original reporting, and whether multiple articles rely on the same underlying source. A quotation from a source is different from proof of the entire claim.

Limits to keep in mind

Some pages block automated access, hide content behind a login, or change after a check. Footnote may miss sources or misunderstand a claim. It does not read an entire video unless the relevant text is available, and a screenshot covers only what was captured.
